A 173-year-old church has been converted into a modern house — and it’s listed for $2.8 million.
Located in Berkshire, England, the Holy Trinity Church is now an eight-bedroom, seven-bathroom property fitted with contemporary additions.
Many of the original features remain intact, including stone walls, stained-glass windows with religious imagery and intricate carvings.
As daylight hits the windows, their colors reflect off the large glass dining table.
What was the main room to host the church choir and the congregation has been transformed into the living area. Features include several original crucifixes, scriptures, as wall as the altar.
Other touches in the living room include a modern fireplace, velvet sofas and updated flooring.
Many of the bedrooms have slanted roofs thanks to the church’s original design.
Built in 1850, the new home is now listed with Unique Property Company, London.
It has been labeled a Victorian Grade 2 listing, which means the building is of historical significance and cannot be demolished.
The conversion started back in 2017.
Described as a Victorian church, it was originally a five-bedroom home that occupied 3,500 square feet by 2020.
But then the adjacent Coach House, which served as the equipment space for the church, was also converted to provide another 1,400 square feet of space.
According to the listing, that area can be used to accommodate staff, additional family members or to convert it into an office/gym/recording studio.
“High-tech with all the latest facilities, including underfloor heating, ventilation system, CCTV with clever and energy-saving smart-home technology,” the listing states. “The original church door leads into an impressive entrance hall which in turn leads to the dining room and lounge.”
“The ‘new house’ sits perfectly inside the church with two additional floors making use of the high ceilings.”
In the last several years, hundreds of churches in England left abandoned have been converted into modern residences.
