This $30M Trump Tower penthouse is the most expensive home in Illinois

Real Estate

The most expensive listing in all of Illinois isn’t exactly a sprawling estate. Rather, it’s a $30 million penthouse in Trump International Hotel & Tower Chicago, according to Realtor.com.

The North Side residence, perched 89 stories above the city’s downtown, overlooks the Chicago River and boasts views of Lake Michigan.

But even with its hefty price tag, the five-bedroom, eight-bathroom penthouse isn’t exactly finished yet.

“It’s halfway completed,” Chezi Rafaeli of Coldwell Banker Realty told Realtor.com. “The buyer still has a chance to customize.”

Kitchen and bathroom fixtures need to be added, and flooring choices will be left up to the buyer. Central heating and air conditioning are already installed.

“It’s one of the most unique properties in the city of Chicago,” Rafaeli said, noting its “outstanding” views and adding that “it’s still waiting for someone to finish it.”

Spanning more than 14,000 square feet, the home features a 19-foot-high ceiling in the living room, complete with floor-to-ceiling glass windows. It also holds a private-access elevator.

Building amenities include a terrace on the 16th floor and a 14,000-square-foot wellness center, which includes a spa, a gym and an indoor pool. Residents also have access to the building’s restaurants.

There are also housekeeping services and a bellman.

“They help you with your groceries, and they meet you in the garage,” Rafaeli said. “Ordinarily, condominiums do not provide that.”

But these building services fall under the sizable HOA fees, which amount to $16,635 per month.

The building was designed by Adrian Smith, the same architect who designed Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, currently the world’s tallest structure — though another of Smith’s projects, Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah Tower, is expected to surpass it upon its completion in the coming years, the listing states.

The current owners purchased the penthouse in 2017 for $17 million, although they never quite lived in it. Rafaeli revealed that they are ready to move on now that their children have grown up.
