Knicks’ Kemba Walker sells Massachusetts mansion amid career struggle

Only two years after purchasing a one-and-a-half acre lot to build a sprawling 9,500-square-foot home, former Boston Celtics point guard Kemba Walker has sold his Massachusetts estate in an off-market deal.

The move comes after Walker, who grew up in the Bronx, joined the New York Knicks in August. But his recent benching on the team, and removal from the Knicks rotation in favor of Alec Burks, put his future with the NBA in question.

Located in the upscale Brookline neighborhood, Walker, 31, purchased the home for $11.25 million in 2019.

While the current price remains undisclosed, it’s been reported that Walker received more than he paid for it at the time, when he had signed a contract with the Celtics worth $141 million over a four-year period.

Made up of six bedrooms and eight baths, the home features a limestone exterior with a 22-foot custom iron entrance.

The residence also features a double bridal iron staircase, two kitchens, an au pair suite, a paneled library, “palatial” primary quarters and four en-suite bedrooms with 14-foot tray ceilings, according to the previous listing.

The property was also touted for its “secluded living” with “estate expansion potential.”

Walker’s career with the Celtics team took a turn when he was forced to sit out last December due to nagging pain in his left knee that stem cell injection therapy couldn’t fix.

Speaking for the first time about his recent benching with the Knicks, Walker revealed his mixed emotions about Coach Tom Thibodeau’s decision.

“It was tough, obviously, because as a competitor, I love to play basketball,” Walker said on Monday after practice. “I love to be on the court. This is the first time this has happened to me in my career, pretty much on any level. But at the end of the day, I have respect for coach Thibs and the decision he made. It might not have been an easy one, but it was a choice he made. I have no choice but to live with it.

Brookline was also home to Tom Brady while he played for the Patriots. Following his trade to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the quarterback and wife, Gisele Bündchen, recently sold their 12,112-square-foot mansion worth $34 million — also in an off-market sale.
