Take a step into a storybook at this enchanted short-term rental.
Tucked away in the rural foothills of northern Scotland’s Ben Rinnes mountain, this little Airbnb offers to transport visitors off the grid and into a fairytale.
The Bilbo Baggins-worthy hobbit hideaway gives guests a charming retreat in a wooded, round “living home” of a dwelling set on a lush property. The two-bedroom, one-bathroom spread has mountain views from every window, with additional sunshine coming in via a living room skylight. An additional set of bunk beds and convertible futons bring the “Earthen home” to five beds, and it can sleep up to six guests at a time. Pets are welcome.
The 3-acre grounds feature a babbling brook, mini waterfalls, the “Fairy Glen,” a private garden, outdoor games, picnic tables, a pizza oven, a grill and access to a wider garden — which includes a fire pit, swings and a “sensory play den,” according to the Airbnb listing.
“It is truly unique, magical and architecturally designed to provide a fun and nurturing escape from the pressures of daily life. Likened to a giant hug,” boasted the quirky abode’s bio.
Beyond the twee aspect, the address also provides a genuine escape from the over-connected world for anyone craving some time away from tech.
“For inside entertainment, we have provided free unlimited wifi, a Bluetooth speaker, and a large selection of books, games, jigsaw puzzles, and soft and wooden toys, including a train set and giant Jenga. If you want a technology-free break, simply switch the wifi off or ask us to remove it,” the host explained in the listing.
Those who go off the grid during their stay might enjoy instead scrolling through the stars with the home’s Dobsonian telescope. Wildlife can also be frequently spotted perusing the property, as can the three resident ducks and community of free-range chickens.
The price of three nights (the minimum for a visit) at the Earthen home ranges depending on the season, and starts at $181 a night.
