Hockey legend Chris Chelios seeks $75M for Malibu beach escape

Real Estate

Three-time Stanley Cup champion Chris Chelios is looking to offload his Malibu home for $75 million — a great deal more than what he bought it for back in 2003.

“I was looking for a place to get away with the family,” Chelios, 61, told The Post of his and wife Tracee Chelios’ decision to shell out $6 million for the seaside estate that year. “No question, Paradise Cove is the best stretch of beach in all of Malibu. For me and my family, there was no better place we could have chosen to spend our time. The privacy is second to none.”

It was the actor Tony Danza who first turned him on to the area, he added to the Wall Street Journal, which first reported the listing.

Although they bought the contemporary compound on what’s known as Billionaire’s Beach for good times in great weather, it turned out to be an incredible investment: The father of four stands to make quite the profit on the four-bedroom, five-bathroom property.

“Malibu’s lifestyle is so supreme, the market keeps pushing itself up,” Compass agent Chris Cortazzo, who holds the listing, explained to The Post of the beachfront residence’s meteoric rise in value, adding that it stands out for being directly on the beach in the tony area, as most homes there “are on the bluffs.”

The sandy sanctuary offers 90 feet of beach frontage, and both a main house and a guest home below.

The main house is defined by an open format kitchen, a living and dining room with skylights galore, wraparound windows, numerous decks, a built-in breakfast nook, a fireplace and a “vanishing wall of glass,” according to the listing

Upstairs is a lofted bedroom, with three others — including the hot tub- and fireplace-equipped primary suite — downstairs.

Downstairs, set into the landscaped slope, is a one-bedroom guest house with its own kitchen and three decks, one which has another hot tub and also a barrel sauna.
