Ridley Scott’s historic former UK estate lists for $35.9M

Real Estate

A grand London compound once owned by the “Alien” director has hit the market.

In the tony nabe of Hampstead, a mansion older than the United States — and once the abode of Sir Ridley Scott — is looking for a new owner.

The property, known as Old Grove House, is listed with Savills’ James Diaper for 28 million pounds, or $35.9 million.

FG Consultants is also marketing the property, which was constructed in the early 18th century and has protected status.

The Oscar winner occupied the historic estate for over 15 years, during which time he extensively refurbished the space, according to the Evening Standard.

In planning applications for the renovation, his interior designer did not mince words in critiquing the previously existing decor, writing that among other things, “The lower-ground floor back entrance hall is a joke — the plasterwork looks like a Sixties Brighton hairdressing salon.”

During his time calling the posh slice of British real estate his home, Ridley worked on many of his better-known films, including “Thelma and Louise,” “Gladiator” and “Hannibal.”

He eventually sold it off-market to a local man who fell in love with the property after passing the house numerous times and eventually attending a party inside.

The current listing marks the first time it’s been available for public purchase since the 1980s.

The listing offers more than 7,500 square feet of space across its four stories.

The layout includes two reception rooms — one “grand,” the other “formal” — various studies and sitting rooms, seven bedrooms and six bathrooms.

In addition to the main home there’s also an attached three-story cottage house with its own kitchen, dining room, reception room, bedroom, bathroom and terrace.

It brings the property’s measurements up to more than 8,500 square feet.

Outside, there’s a sprawling, walled garden with a formal lawn, hedges and topiary galore, and a perfectly quaint sitting area.

This is in addition to a roof terrace with sweeping views of the city.
