Kim Kardashian is being accused of posting photos of her home to distract from the Balenciaga controversy.
Kardashian denounced the Balenciaga advertising campaign — which depicted children alongside sexual bondage-style attire and a child pornography court ruling — saying she was “disgusted and outraged.” But she also revealed that she would not cut ties with the brand, for which she’s an ambassador, adding that she believes “they understand the seriousness of the issue and will take the necessary measures for this to never happen again.”
The controversial campaign also showed children alongside a book by a painter whose works include castrated toddlers.
Fans have been angered by Kardashian’s silence for days before releasing a statement, especially since becoming the face of the brand in the past year. Kardashian attributed her long silence by first wanting to give Balenciaga an opportunity “to speak to their team to understand for myself how this could’ve happened.”
Since that statement, she has posted several photos on Instagram, including interiors of her main home in Hidden Hills, California. Photos showed her primary bedroom, a living space, a neutral mug and light art on the walls.
Kardashian, 42, spent $23 million to buy out the home from her now ex-husband Kanye West, 45.
Made up of eight bedrooms and 10 bathrooms, the former couple shelled out an additional $20 million on top of the $20 million they paid for it in 2014 for renovations.
Spanning over 15,600 square-feet, the home has since been compared to an “insane asylum,” with very “cold,” “depressing vibes.”
She later posted a video of her house decorated for the Christmas season.
Following the post, a torrent of comments flooded with the hashtag “cancel Balenciaga.”
“It hasn’t blown over yet if that is what you are wondering. And I don’t think it will…. thank goodness,” one person commented.
“We won’t forget,” another said.
Many others brought up resurfaced photos of Kardashian’s daughter, North, dressed with a gimp mask on her head.
Others also called her out as “complicit” by allowing herself to continue the partnership with the luxury designer brand.
“So disappointing,” another wrote, adding “looks like you really don’t have a soul.”
