Stunning multi-sided estate with ties to a famed California architect asks $7.99M

Real Estate

A multi-sided masterpiece of a house has hit the market in Southern California.

In the unincorporated area of La Crescenta, a futuristic-looking estate that looks more residential art piece than home is looking for a new buyer.

The property, which is listed with Sherri Rogers of Compass, is seeking $7.99 million.

Secluded on a hilltop, the compound consists of two pedigreed properties together composing 5.7 acres of land, lush with a carefully curated succulent garden.

The original of the pair of buildings was constructed in 1953, by famed architect Richard Neutra, who built the property for his secretary, Dorothy Serulnic.

The 70-year-old abode measures in at 1,350 square feet, and includes two bedrooms and one bathroom.

Highlights include a stone fireplace, a breakfast nook, full walls of glass and custom built-ins designed by Neutra, such as a sofa system with a record player and concealed speakers, as well as multiple desks and shelving systems.

The more modest of the two properties is set on a flat, grassy bit of mountaintop with panoramic sights and glorious sunset views.

More than 50 years after its construction, in 2003, another domicile was added to the plot.

This spaceship-esque situation, built by architect Michael Maltzan, has seven sides and is built around an interior courtyard.

Inside highlights of this home include the “curvilinear penny tiled bathroom” in the primary suite, a sprawling lap pool, an outdoor movie pavilion with a wind screen and a catering kitchen.

The home offers stunning sunset views.

In 2021, an additional 875 feet — also designed by Maltzan — were added to the structure.

“A spectacular cabin designed by Mariah O’Brien interiors and Mind Tree Arts completes the unique compound,” notes the listing of a third building on the grounds.

Although it looks remote, the listing assures that the space is “Just minutes away from [Downtown LA], Pasadena, Los Feliz and Silver Lake.”
