In December 2025, a billionaire purchased roughly 937,000 acres of land in New Mexico in what was the largest private land deal in the United States since 2011. The buyer was Stan Kroenke, the owner of the LA Rams, Arsenal FC, and the Colorado Avalanche. After this deal closed, Kroenke became the single largest private landowner in the United States with over 2.7 million acres across North America. Today we are getting into the full story. How a Missouri kid who started out developing Walmart shopping centers built one of the most extraordinary land empires in American history, the ranches he owns, what he paid for them, and why a billionaire who already owns millions of acres just went out and bought a million more.
