A Washington, DC townhouse where former President Barack Obama lived during his years as a senator is on the market for $1.27 million.
The property is a multifamily residence with two units, including the first-floor apartment where Obama lived. The townhouse is located less than a mile from Capitol Hill and offers access to the US Capitol, and Senate and House offices, according to Mansion Global.
“It’s kind of a modest house,” listing agent, Linda Pettie with Coldwell Banker Realty, told The Post, adding that the location, however, is everything.
Located on the east side of Stanton Park, Obama rented the unit during his time as a senator representing Illinois from 2005 to 2008 — and while he was running for president.
“He lived on that first floor apartment. And then the other part of the house was rented out to another party,” Pettie added.
What’s more, the home overlooks the District’s famed cherry blossoms during the springtime.
The main unit, spanning the second and third floors, boasts two bedrooms and 1.5 baths. As you step inside, you’ll be greeted by sunlit living spaces. The kitchen overlooks Stanton Park.
Features include wood floors and a woodburning fireplace. Patio doors off the living room lead to a rear iron deck, granting access to the backyard, which includes off-street parking for one car.
Venturing upstairs are the bedrooms, a full bath with a shower/tub and laundry area.
The first-floor apartment where Obama resided, and showcased by special appointment, is a one-bedroom, one-bath unit currently rented for $1,500 per month.
The lease will convey until the end of January 2024, the listing notes, adding that it will “present an excellent opportunity for potential rental income or flexible living arrangements.”
In 2008, Obama, now 61, told “60 Minutes” that the space had a “vintage, college-dorm, pizza, empty-bottle feel to it,” and he was teased for being the only senator whose staff had better DC abodes.
Former First Lady Michelle Obama said she visited the apartment, but never slept there.
“I saw it long enough to know that I wasn’t going to stay there,” the Princeton and Harvard alum said in the “60 Minutes” interview.
During Obama’s first campaign for the presidency, Secret Service members advised it would be easier to keep an eye on him if he were at a hotel, and he moved out.
